Inside Your Computer, Part 2: Motherboard

The next component I am going to talk about is the Motherboard.

What is it: The motherboard is a printed circuit board that contain all of the circuits, sockets, plugs and power couplings needed to make the computer run. Basically, its where you plug everything in.

Where is it: Inside the chassis (which is what the tower/box/case is called) the motherboard is attached vertically along one of the long sides of the case so that the other components that plug into the motherboard have enough space without banging into the case or the other components, as well as having enough room for airflow to cool everything.

If you have any questions, please put them in the comments. Thank you.

  1. Peter,
What I like most about your blog is that I can understand what you say! This is a big deal for me, as I live with 2 IT types who aren't always great about talking computer in a way that I can understand I feel like you are NOT talking down to me, and yet I understand you (so you must be!) I can really see using your blog as a reference for my computer issues!

This was really a comment on your overall blog, more than on this particular post.

    THanks! Judy

  2. I haven't done it in a while but I love the feeling of building my own computer from scratch and of course the motherboard is the most critical part, no wonder it's called MOTHER board. I love it when a good mother board is also user friendly and has lots of usability features. These things are true examples of amazing modern technology. Thousands of connections and electronic pathways, most of which are so tiny you can't see them. It will be great when they can make them smaller and smaller.........

  3. Dear Peter,

Do you realize that since you started attending the Writer's Group you are getting comments!

If you know how to expand the comments to show after the blog post itself, I'd say do that!

Your blog is anything but boring.

Keep being the Computer Plumber you are!

Howdy would you mind sharing which blog platform you're working with? I'm looking to start my own blog soon but I'm having a difficult time deciding between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design seems different then most blogs and I'm looking for something unique.

P.S Apologies for getting off-topic but I had to ask!

Hi there! I just wanted to ask if you ever have any issues with hackers?
My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I ended up losing months of hard work due
to no back up. Do you have any methods to prevent hackers?

I am curious which blogging and site-building platform you might be running?

I'm new to running a blog and have been thinking about using the Live journal platform. Do you think this is a good platform to start with? I would be really thankful if I could ask you some questions through email so I can learn a bit more prior to getting started. When you have some free time, please make sure to get in touch with me at: aimee.pruett@freenet.de. Cheers

I know this if off topic but I'm looking into starting my own blog and was curious what all is needed to get set up? I'm assuming having a
blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I'm not very web smart so I'm not 100% positive. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

Have you ever thought about adding a little bit more than just your articles?

I mean, what you say is important and all. However think about
if you added some great visuals or videos to give your
posts more, "pop"! Your content is excellent but with images and videos, this
site could certainly be one of the greatest in its field.

visit more often. Did you hire out a designer to create your theme?
    Great work!

May I simply just say what a relief to discover somebody that actually understands
what they're discussing on the net. You actually realize how to bring a problem to light and make it important. More people need to look at this and understand this side of your story. I can't believe
you are not more popular since you surely possess the gift.

I'm starting a internet blog directory and was wondering if I can submit your blog? I'm hoping
to grow my directory slowly by hand so that it maintains top quality.
I'll make sure and put your blog in the proper category and I'll also use, "Blogger: Magic Box Broken, Fix Magic Box!" as your
